How to Get the Most for Your Home

There are differing opinions in real estate on what it takes to sell a home and how to receive the best selling price. The home listing and selling processes are complex and difficult to navigate alone. Pricing, paperwork, disclosures, negotiations, protecting yourself are all critical to getting the most money for the sale of your home. What helps? Focusing in on these four things:

Curb Appeal

Try to have the best looking house on the street! Ask yourself: Is the exterior neat and clean?  Is your roof free of leaves and debris?  Does your home need paint?  Is the inside of your home neat, clean, and free of clutter? Do you have pets and pet smells that need to be removed? Consider the potential buyer's first impression when they arrive and make the improvements needed. Whether you are trying to sell real estate in Metairie, Kenner, New Orleans, or the Westbank curb appeal is important.


Want to find the right buyer who really “wants” your house and will pay the right price to get it? You have to market beyond a sign in the yard. Our realtor team spends a lot of time and money on marketing your home. This means posting your home on multiple websites for maximum exposure to the greatest possible audience 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Don’t stop there - holding open houses to introduce your home to the market and a broker’s open houses to allow other agents to preview is essential.  “Best marketed” also means adjusting things as we go; updating data, taking into consideration the new competition. How do you lower showing limitations? A home that is available for the show is a home that can be sold faster. Ideally, every real estate agent will give 24 hours notice and arrive on time, but in reality, some will call from your driveway and want to show your Metairie home right then.  It’s important to keep your house as clean and ready to show as you can at all times. Price per square foot is NOT the only factor in home value, but you should compare it to homes similar in size.
